How beach volleyball recruiting really works
Beach volleyball is one of the newest NCAA championship sports and it is still growing fast — programs are added most years. It is a women's sport played as five fixed pairs, so coaches recruit for a specific pairing: two players who complement each other, or one half of a strong duo. Your recruiting résumé is your pairs results and national ranking on the AVP America, p1440 and USAV junior beach circuits, and a large share of college players cross over from a strong indoor background. D1 rosters are capped at 19.

Play a ranked junior beach pairs schedule (AVP America, USAV) alongside indoor. Start match video. Keep grades strong.
Build a target list — and keep it current as new programs launch. Email coaches your pairs results, ranking, partner situation and academic profile.
Coaches can contact you from June 15 after sophomore year. Attend college beach camps at your top schools, take unofficial visits, official visits from Aug 1.
Convert interest at camps and commit where the pairing, program trajectory, degree and aid fit.
If uncommitted, widen to D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO, keep playing ranked pairs events, and send updated results and video.
Where you fit: beach volleyball scholarships by level
D1 beach volleyball rosters are capped at 19. Schools that opted into the 2025 House settlement have no scholarship cap; most still spread partial aid across the roster. D1 schools that did not opt in work from 6 equivalency scholarships (8 without indoor volleyball), D2 from 5, and NAIA from 5. D3 offers no athletic scholarships — academic and need-based aid only. NAIA and NJCAA (junior college) are separate associations, unaffected by the settlement, and their scholarship rules stand.

Keep your GPA and test scores in range for each target school, above the NCAA core-course minimums (2.3 for D1, 2.2 for D2), and register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (D1 and D2) by junior year.
