What to do each year — the recruiting clock in this sport is earlier than most families expect.
Attend a first showcase for baseline numbers (velo, exit velo, 60). Build a Perfect Game / PBR profile. Prioritise arm care and strength.
Email 30–50 programs across D1, D2, D3 and JUCO with your numbers, position and a short film. Attend regional showcases where college staffs are present.
Peak evaluation year. Hit the summer showcase circuit, attend prospect camps at target schools, and take unofficial visits. Update numbers every time they improve.
Convert interest into offers at camps. Official visits from Aug 1. Commit when the level, playing time and aid package line up.
If uncommitted, lean into JUCO and D2/D3/NAIA, keep showcasing, and re-check velocity — a senior-year jump reopens doors.
D1 baseball rosters are capped at 34. Schools that opted into the 2025 House settlement have no scholarship cap and can fund any of those spots; a small number do so fully, but most still spread partial aid. D1 schools that did not opt in, and all of D2 (about 9), still work from equivalency budgets — historically 11.7 at D1 — split across the roster. NAIA carries around 12. D3 offers no athletic scholarships — academic and need-based aid only. NAIA and NJCAA (junior college) are separate associations, unaffected by the settlement, and their scholarship rules stand.
34-player roster cap. Recruited early off showcase tools; the transfer portal and JUCO fill many spots. Opt-in programs can fund more of the roster than the old 11.7-scholarship model allowed.

Baseball's first signing window is in November of senior year, so your NCAA core-course picture should qualify by the start of senior year — a 2.3+ core GPA across 16 core courses. Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center by junior year; D3 and academic programs will also run you through regular admissions.
JUCO baseball is a legitimate, fast path to a four-year program — a large share of D1 rosters came through JUCO first.
